At some point the people making 18 minute rusty vise restoration videos started reading the comments and gave the people what they want-- no shitty music blasting on loop over the whole thing. And thankfully they didn't even replace it with a voice-over! This whole vid is just the mostly-unadulterated sounds of different kinds of scraping, prying, and hammering. No music, no talking (yes reading). We love that. If you want music for this experience you can just play it in another tab. But I respectfully request you keep the sound on for this one as well.

That said, sound isn't the key feature here. I'm more interested in thinking about how good it would feel to get taken apart and sandblasted, oiled up, reassembled, and painted. Like in Spirited Away where the girl pulls all that detritus out of a sludge monster and he's restored to his natural state-- a river god made of briskly flowing spiritual water. God, imagine being a nice clean river, snaking through a landscape... imagine being a fresh vice clamping down on a piece of metal while someone hits it with a huge hammer. "this thing isn't going anywhere boss!"

After watching this I wound up absolutely scrubbing the crap out of my tea kettle, getting all the flame-hardened crud off. It wasn't nearly as elaborate a procedure as Rusty Deadlocked Vise Perfect Restoration but yes, it felt great. I know I'm flip flopping here between I'm the thing and I'm the guy, but you know what, to love and to be loved... both of these things... they both rock.
