Basalt… black velvety fur, very nice to pet. Named after the aphanitic (fine-grained) extrusive igneous rock formed from the rapid cooling of low-viscosity lava rich in magnesium and iron (mafic lava) exposed at or very near the surface of a rocky planet or moon..
Handmade in Providence RI. I make each sphinx entirely without a pattern so each one is unique. They vary in size, but are all close to 10 inches long and 6 inches tall. They are stuffed with polyester fiberfill to what I consider an agreeable and robust consistency.
